Being part of PerkinElmer’s Food business unit has enabled us to implement the PerkinElmer Spectrum II spectrometer in the LactoScope FTIR, starting this week.This reduces analysis time by 20% and reduces the frequency of desiccant replacement from 3 months to 1 year.
PerkinElmer has manufactured IR spectrometers since more than 65 years and is a global leader in this field with more than 23,000 FTIR systems installed. The Spectrum II is their latest model and implementing it in the LactoScope FTIR means our customers benefit from its outstanding performance and stability. Sourcing from our parent company also means that we secure supply and have a direct channel to product development and manufacturing.
All existing LactoScope FTIR calibrations are fully transferable and can be used in systems with the new spectrometer. It has been a Delta Instruments philosophy to have the FTIR equipment provide identical spectra across different platforms and different generations of instruments. This allows us to guarantee the transferability of calibrations among instruments easily. Development has been done in cooperation with PerkinElmer, so that the SP2 fits in this philosophy and produces again the same spectra and transfer of calibration is guaranteed.
We have also evaluated the Spectrum II from a performance point of view and our conclusion is that its performance is equal to or better than the previous Bomem spectrometer. Customers will also benefit from the excellent sealing of the SP2. It reduces the frequency of desiccant replacement from 3 months to 1 year, which improves the uptime of the instrument. There are no external changes to the LactoScope FTIR, and the user interface is the same. However, the analytical tools for service changes from PL Cats to a new program called SP10. All is completely installed on the computer supplied with the instrument.
